Current law
To return a mail ballot in Arizona today, you sign the affidavit envelope. The county verifies that signature against your record. No photo identification is presented. Identification is required to vote in person at a polling place, but not to return a ballot by mail.
What Prop 144 would do
Proposition 144, on the November 3, 2026 ballot, would put a uniform proof-of-identity requirement for every ballot into the Arizona Constitution, with government-issued identification available at no cost. If it passes, returning a mail ballot would include an identity step in addition to your signature.
What to do either way
Confirm your registration and mailing address at arizona.vote. If your driver license or state ID is expired, renew it. Those two steps make you ready under current rules and under Prop 144.
